In English, we define the word 'practice' as "performing an action - such as an activity, exercise, or skill - repeatedly or regularly in order to improve or maintain one's proficiency; A customary or habitual way of doing things."

This same concept can be applied to our faith-walk in discipleship and repentance. It's not always about an immediate, overnight change in our behavior. We are called to practice the commandments of God in our lives, to improve our behavior as we continue to learn and apply His word to our thoughts and choices - making a habit of godliness, and aligning our customs with His righteousness.

You are either working to study God's loving instructions, and actively growing in wisdom and obedience to His Law... or you are applying your efforts to get better at sinning, accumulating experience in transgressing His Law.

Deuteronomy 30:19-20
...Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live! You can make this choice by loving the Lord your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him...

Romans 6:16
Do you not know that when you present yourselves to someone as slaves for obedience, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin resulting in death, or of obedience resulting in righteousness?

Romans 6:22
But now having been freed from sin and enslaved to God, you derive your benefit, resulting in sanctification, and the outcome, eternal life.

Our Messiah walked out the Laws of His Father perfectly, leaving us an example to follow in His steps (1 Peter 2:21-22), and it should be our goal to walk just as He walked (1 John 2:6). In Matthew 5:17-19 Christ specifically stated that He did not come to abolish the Law - and that until heaven and earth pass away, and all is fulfilled, not a single jot or tittle of the Law will be done away with. To this end, He did not bring an end to the eternal Law of God... but rather:

Christ is the end [principle aim and goal] of the Law, to bring righteousness [right behavior] to everyone who believes. [the faith to be faithful].

Romans 10:3
For not knowing about God's righteousness [right behavior outlined in God's Law] and seeking to establish their own, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God.

Romans 10:10
for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, [right behavior] and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.
