Privacy policy

In effect from 14 September 2026

The short version. You can read every meme in the library, on the website or in the Android app, without telling us who you are. We only hold personal information about you if you sign in to leave a comment, and then it is your Torahly account details and the comments you post. We do not run ads, we do not use analytics, and we do not sell or trade anything about you.

What this covers

This policy applies to the Uncommon Ground website at uncommonground.pics and the Uncommon Ground Android app (package name pics.uncommonground.memes) on Google Play. Both are run by Uncommon Ground, a Torah-and-Scripture teaching show. When the text says we, it means the people who run the show.

The app and the website read from the same library, so they collect the same things in the same situations. Where one of them differs, the section says so.

Just browsing

Searching the library, opening a meme, reading its verses and the words posted with it, and watching an episode all work without an account. When you do any of that, the app or your browser sends a request to our library server at api.uncommonground.pics. Like any web server, it sees the IP address the request came from and the page or record you asked for, and keeps those in ordinary server logs for troubleshooting. We do not use the logs to build a profile of anyone.

Saved memes stay on your device. The shelf of memes you keep is stored locally, in the app's own storage on your phone or in your browser's local storage on the website. It is never sent to us, and it disappears if you uninstall the app or clear your browser data.

Signing in

Signing in is optional. You only need it to post comments. Uncommon Ground does not create accounts of its own; it uses the sign-in from Torahly (torahly.app), so one account works for both.

When you sign in, this is what happens:

• Your email address or username and your password are sent over an encrypted connection to Torahly's server at api.torahly.app, which checks them. We never see your password.
• Torahly returns a sign-in token. Our library server verifies that token with Torahly and keeps a copy of your account ID, email address, username and display name, so your comments can be tied to you.
• The app stores that token, your email address and your display name on your device so you stay signed in. Signing out removes them.

Comments

Comments are public. Anyone using the app or the website can read them, and each one shows the display name of the account that posted it, the text you wrote, and when you wrote it. They are stored on our library server.

Do not put anything in a comment you would not want the whole audience to see. If you want a comment of yours taken down, write to us and we will remove it.

Facebook and the sync

The memes are first published on the show's Facebook Page. To bring them into the library, the people who run the show sign in to Facebook from an administrator screen inside the app. That screen is only reachable by administrator accounts; ordinary users are never asked to sign in to Facebook, and nothing about you is sent to Meta.

The app includes the Facebook software development kit to make that administrator sign-in possible. We have turned off the kit's automatic event logging and advertising-ID collection, so it does not report app opens or your device's advertising identifier to Meta.

During the sync, the app reads the words inside each meme image so they can be searched. That text recognition runs on the administrator's own device; the images are not uploaded to a third party for it.

Services we rely on

Our servers are hosted in a data centre operated by a hosting provider on our behalf. The provider does not have permission to use the data for its own purposes.

What we do not do

• No advertising, and no advertising networks.
• No analytics or usage tracking of any kind.
• No access to your location, contacts, camera, microphone, photos or files. The app asks for one permission: internet access.
• No selling, renting or trading of personal information, ever.
• No sharing of your details with anyone except the services in the table above, or when the law requires it.

How long we keep things

• Server logs are rotated and deleted automatically within a few weeks.
• Account details stay on our library server for as long as you have comments in the library, or until you ask us to remove them.
• Comments stay until you delete them or ask us to.
• Sign-in details on your device stay until you sign out or uninstall the app.

Seeing or deleting your data

To delete everything yourself, go to uncommonground.pics/delete-account.html, sign in, and confirm. It removes your account record and all your comments straight away.

Otherwise, email contact@uncommonground.pics from the address on your account and we will send you a copy of what we hold, remove specific comments, or delete your account record and every comment on it. We answer within 30 days, usually much sooner.

To delete the Torahly account itself, use the account controls in Torahly or contact Torahly directly; deleting the Uncommon Ground record does not close the Torahly account, and the other way round.

If you are in the UK, the EU or another place that gives you rights to access, correct, delete or object to the use of your information, the same email address is how you use them.

Children

The app and website are for a general audience and are not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has signed in and commented, tell us and we will remove the record.

Changes to this page

If we change what we collect or how we use it, we will update this page and the date at the top. Changes that matter will also be announced in the app. The current version is always at uncommonground.pics/privacy.html.
